Kasteel Donker

K
asteel Donker is a member of the Belgian quadrupel family. These are strong, sweet to bitter, dark brown beers where the malt predominates. They were inspired by the beers of the Trappist brewers. It is a full-mouthed, malty beer with touches of caramel, coffee and chocolate coming from the roast malt. The sweet initial taste is quite surprising. Further tasting shows this beer to be intriguingly complex.

Augustijn Grand Cru

B
esides the classic Augustijn Blonde, there is also a Grand Cru version; the “tripel” you could say. Less famous, but according to beer lovers without a doubt one of the best and finest beers of Brewery Van Steenberge. This beer unites a remarkable drought with the fruity of a tripel and will hence seduce many beer lovers!
This beer is an all-rounder, ideal as appetizer but also delivers as digestive or with strong cheese. An excellent companion for every fish dish and also delicious with a hearty bouillabaisse and one of the few beers that suits amazingly well with seafood!

Augustijn Blonde

A
ugustijn is indeed a genuine beer. One that is appreciated at receptions because of its mild and soft but very rich taste, but also during relaxed moments of tasting. It is in short a beer for every occasion. Amber blonde with white foam head, fruity and hoppy aroma. Taste straightforward and mild, a light touch of vanilla, slightly bitter aftertaste.

St. Paul Double

I
t pours a deep red colour with slight orange. The head is tanned with decent retention and nice foam lacing that stays. Flaky sediments are all over the brew. Aromas of dark fruits and quite nutty. Same for the flavours, nutty throughout with light notes of chocolate malt and a slight taste of smoke and oak wood in the aftertaste. Thin-bodied with some light tart on the tongue. A very well-balanced and light dubbel that is quite refreshing.

St. Paul Triple

It pours a clear golden yellow colour with a big white foam head with amazing lacing. Aroma of sourdough, and plenty of coriander. Taste was very pleasant tartness up front with some cookie-like sweetness. Buttery think mouth feel.

Tripel Karmeliet

Blond, robust, smooth, and fruity three grain top fermented beer, re-fermented in the bottle. Brewed with pride and patience after Karmeliet tradition with wheat, oat and barley. This complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head has a very refined and complex aroma with hints of vanilla mixed with citrus. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.
Tripel Karmeliet is still brewed to an authentic beer recipe from 1679 originating in the former Carmelite monastery in Dendermonde, Belgium. It appears that the particular historic combination of the 3 kinds of grain still remains the ideal blend. 100% natural.

Sint Bernardus Abt 12

The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the best beers in the world. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10%) from this brewery. A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine fruity aroma with hints of banana and apples, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour. If you ever wanted to taste the Trappist Westvleteren 12 (supposedly number 1 best beer in the world ) which you can't buy but only in the monastery itself and in very limited amounts (2 cases) if available but still wanted to know what that taste is like, the Sint Bernardus Abt 12 comes very very close. An absolute recommendation !!

Abbaye des Rocs Brune

Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.
