Abbey Ales

Maredsous 6 Blonde

In 1963, the Benedictine abbey of Maredsous entrusted the production and sales of the famed Maredsous beers to Duvel Moortgat. The monks continue to exercise strict control over its recipes and quality standards right up to today.
Regardless of what colour or taste you choose, the Maredsous range has everything to intrigue you. These aromatic, delicate, fruity and velvety beers supplement each other in a perfect harmony as far as both colour and taste experience are concerned. The blonde Maredsous with 6% alcohol content, the brown one with 8% alcohol content and the triple one with 10% alcohol content ripen first for two full months before they depart to their final destination.
The specific bottle fermentation, refined by the brewery for its main brand Duvel, also give the Maredsous abbey beers an extra dimension.

Tripel Karmeliet

Blond, robust, smooth, and fruity three grain top fermented beer, re-fermented in the bottle. Brewed with pride and patience after Karmeliet tradition with wheat, oat and barley. This complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head has a very refined and complex aroma with hints of vanilla mixed with citrus. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.
Tripel Karmeliet is still brewed to an authentic beer recipe from 1679 originating in the former Carmelite monastery in Dendermonde, Belgium. It appears that the particular historic combination of the 3 kinds of grain still remains the ideal blend. 100% natural.

Sint Bernardus Abt 12

The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the best beers in the world. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10%) from this brewery. A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine fruity aroma with hints of banana and apples, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour. If you ever wanted to taste the Trappist Westvleteren 12 (supposedly number 1 best beer in the world ) which you can't buy but only in the monastery itself and in very limited amounts (2 cases) if available but still wanted to know what that taste is like, the Sint Bernardus Abt 12 comes very very close. An absolute recommendation !!

Abbaye des Rocs Brune

Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Affligem Tripel

King of the abbey beers. Delivers a complex, full bodied flavour. Vibrant orangey-amber coloured with a slight haze. Soft, thick creamy head - luscious to behold. Aroma of yeast, pepper, coriander, pear, tangerine and banana. Palate starts out with abundant yeastiness in the form of sweat and dust. Dry pepper alcohol notes come next, leading to a slightly sweeter velvet fruity middle with tangerines and apple skins. Finishes with a herbal hoppines, a slight shot of alcohol & a kiss of sweet malt for balance.

Pure enjoyment! Secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Affligem is brewed in Belgium according to the original recipe of the Benedictines since 1074.
In 2004 Affligem Tripel has received the golden medal for best abbey beer in the world.

Leffe 9

This Abbaye beer is a degustation beer with a higher fermentation. The ingredients are pale malt, maize, water hops and yeast which gives this brew its deep golden colour. The flavour is very powerful and full bodied with strong fruity and herbal aromas refering to clove and vanilla. A good balance between fruitiness and bitterness. The slightly smoked notes together with the alcohol reminds you of a Cognac or Whiskey. The aftertaste last is warm and is long lasting.

Leffe Brune

Very nice dark brown brew with a fluffy head. Scent of dark fruits, caramel and yeast. Rich flavour of caramel malts, mollasses, nuts, rasins and dark plummy fruits with a prolonged sweet maltyness. Some part of the taste is often compared with dark Belgian bread refering to a similar yeast. Very well balanced with spicy yeasty dry finish. Odd as it seems for the less expierenced beer connoisseur you can drink one of these with just about any meal.
